Tesla has unveiled the refreshed Model Y, codenamed “Juniper,” in China, Australia, and much of Asia, introducing several enhancements to its popular electric SUV.
Fresh Design
The updated Model Y features a full-width light bar for both the headlights and taillights, providing a modern aesthetic.
Stalks Are Back
Contrary to expectations set by Tesla’s recent design trends, the new Model Y retains a physical indicator stalk, diverging from the stalkless configurations of the latest Model S, Model X, and Model 3.
Since the 2021 launch of the Model S Plaid, Tesla has progressively adopted the highly controversial stalkless design, eliminating traditional turn signals and gear shifters in favor of steering wheel buttons and touchscreen controls. This approach continued with the refreshed Model X and the reengineered Model 3 sedan with blowback from many Tesla owners and car reviewers. Tesla heard the criticism and its new Model Y configurator reveals the inclusion of a physical indicator stalk.
More Range
Additionally, the long-range variant boasts an extended real-world range of 360 miles, up from the previous 337 miles, offering drivers increased travel distance on a single charge. The front and rear bumpers have also been subtly tweaked to maximize efficiency.
Interior Upgrades
Interior upgrades include available ventilated front seats, a redesigned steering wheel, and a rear-seat display for backseat passengers. The rear screen doubles as a panel for climate controls and as an entertainment display for games and video content.
Deliveries of the refreshed Model Y in China are scheduled to commence in March 2025. This launch underscores Tesla’s commitment to innovation and its strategic focus on the Chinese market, where it faces growing competition from local electric vehicle manufacturers.
There has been no announcement on when the car might come to Europe and the US.
THE TAKEAWAY
The Tesla Model Y “Juniper” refresh offers several upgrades over the standard Model Y, making it an appealing choice for buyers seeking the latest features.
